Ruben Amorim says Manchester United are a better team when Marcus Rashford is involved, but reiterated that he will not back down from his principles.

Rashford has again been left out of the United squad to face FCSB in the Europa League.

The Man Utd boss admitted after his side’s win over Fulham that Rashford was not “doing the maximum” in training and declared he would put his 62-year-old goalkeeping coach on the bench instead of a player who does not work hard enough.

But Amorim insists United could do with Rashford playing: “Imagine a talent like Rashford, our team should be so much better with him, but he has to change, we need it.

“We have to set standards and we are waiting for Marcus if he really wants it, I have nothing against Marcus I just have to make the same rules for everyone.”

On United ‘crisis’ and implementing his style

United have endured a torrid season, sitting 12th in the Premier League.

The United boss has been trying to implement his wing-backs system that was so successful at Sporting CP, but insists he will need more time before it reaps reward.

“It’s difficult because we were losing so many matches and then we have to change a lot of things without time to train. It is clear we can improve if we have time to train, we have so many games compared to training and that makes it hard to cope.

“This was one of the biggest problems for me starting in the middle of the season.”

Manchester United will take on FCSB in their final Europa League qualification match as they look to secure their spot in the last-16. The Red Devils remain unbeaten in the competition but will need a win to guarantee their finish in the top eight, with a draw also enough provided other results fall their way.
