Sir Jim Ratcliffe cut the ribbon this afternoon to officially open Manchester United’s new training complex at Carrington.

The ambitious £50 million project has brought United’s first team training facilities back to the forefront of sport, after having fallen to a level previously slated by Cristiano Ronaldo in his infamous interview with Piers Morgan in 2023.

Ronaldo described Carrington as being “stopped in time” and said “It wasn’t a proper environment for me.”

According to manutd.com, the project “has been completed on time and within budget”.

The new complex would leave even Ronaldo’s jaw dropping. It contains cryotherapy chambers, an upgraded swimming pool, world class gym and medical setups, infrared recovery systems, a barbershop, an upgraded canteen and a special “flow system”.

Sir Jim said “Following a review of the facility last year, we made a quick decision to invest significantly in the creation of a world-class performance environment for staff and players to reflect our ambition and vision for Manchester United.

“We are delighted with the outcome and are confident the new facility will play an important role in building a winning culture at the club.”

He also spoke about how the facility is an important step on the journey to return United to the top of world football.

Omar Berrada, chief executive officer, said:

“This project represents a clear step towards unifying every part of the club around a shared footballing vision. By bringing our staff and players closer together in one integrated environment, we are creating a culture of collaboration and high-performance.”

Sir Alex Ferguson also gave a moving speech, unveiling a plaque dedicated to the late Kath Phipps.

Ruben Amorim and members of the first team squad were also present for the event.
