Real Zaragoza have taken decisive legal action against two young cadets who departed for Barcelona during the summer transfer window for Barcelona.

According to reports from AS, the club is determined to protect their youth academy by preventing the loss of talented players without proper regulations in place.

The Spanish side has initiated legal proceedings against Gorka Buil and Samuel Borniquel, both of whom left for Barcelona. Zaragoza are seeking official information regarding the contracts signed by the two players before deciding on further steps.

This legal request follows previous warnings issued to the parents of both cadets, informing them that their departure had breached an agreement made in writing with the club.

Zaragoza had warned

Zaragoza have consistently raised concerns over larger clubs taking advantage of their youth development efforts.

“The club makes a great effort and investment in the training and development of its players, which is sometimes taken advantage of by clubs with greater resources,” said the club in a statement last year.

This lack of clear regulations governing such situations has led to growing disputes, affecting the sporting, social, and financial stability of clubs like Zaragoza.

The club argues that these ongoing practices prioritise competitive and commercial interests over the overall well-being of young players.

Without stricter guidelines in place, smaller clubs are left vulnerable to losing their top prospects. As a result, they have decided to take all necessary legal measures to uphold its reputation and ensure the long-term sustainability of its institution.

Asking for measures

One of the key steps taken by the club includes banning scouts from major teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as prominent agencies such as Bahia Internacional, from entering their Ciudad Deportiva training facility.

This decision aims to curb external interference and safeguard their academy from further disruptions.

In addition to these legal actions, Zaragoza have also enforced strict policies regarding contract renewals.

Recently, the club decided to exclude four young players—Sergio Beltran ‘Ratón’, Dennis Rufo, and brothers Jorge and Pablo Lambea—from training sessions.

These players had not responded to contract renewal offers that had been on the table for over two months.
