Thiago Motta has explained why he was particularly disappointed after Juventus’s exit from the Coppa Italia at the hands of Empoli on Wednesday night, revealing that he was left ‘angry’ after the team made mistakes he felt they couldn’t afford to.
Juventus were eliminated from the Coppa Italia quarter-final after a penalty shoot-out loss to Empoli at the Allianz Stadium on Wednesday night after Youssef Maleh and Khephren Thuram struck to seal a 1-1 draw in regular time.
Thiago Motta spent a large portion of his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s Serie A game against Hellas Verona discussing and analysing where things went wrong for the Old Lady in the cup this week.

He began by making it clear that Juventus had no intention of getting knocked out of the Coppa Italia in order to focus on their Serie A campaign.
“We always take to the pitch to win, even more so right now and we will continue to give our best on the pitch in every game. There are 12 matches left, we always try to do our best and get the result, except from the last game in the Coppa Italia,” Motta said, reported via TMW.
“Our ambition is to add three to three each time to reach our goal, with commitment, sacrifice, determination and ambition. We have to put all our energy in to play a good, technical, physical game full of character.”

The Bianconeri coach went on to explain why he was left ‘angry’ with his players after full-time against Empoli.
“There is a huge disappointment on everyone’s part. I was angry after the game because I love my players very much, and I know them very well, but we made mistakes where we couldn’t afford to go wrong. 39 games so far, we have made mistakes where we shouldn’t make mistakes.
“I see (the players) every day, we didn’t do it in the last game. We didn’t take responsibility on the pitch, we put ourselves in a lot of difficulty. We have talked, we always discuss in a positive way so it’s a constructive thing.”
Motta was asked directly if he feels the support of the Juventus board and players, to which he gave a short but assertive response: “Yes.”
