“There’s a rumour flying around” – Mike Keegan offers update on Manchester City’s 115 charges | OneFootball

A further update has been offered on Manchester City’s 115 charges issued by the Premier League in February 2023, amid rumours of the issues being dropped.

The English top-flight charged Manchester City with more than 100 breaches of its financial rules following a four-year investigation that started in December 2018, subsequently referring the club to an independent commission over alleged rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.

City has also been accused by the Premier League of not co-operating since the investigation started, while Etihad Stadium officials first reacted by issuing a feeling of “surprise” but being supported by a “body of irrefutable evidence”.

In recent days, there has been growing speculation surrounding the charges, with one rumour on a Manchester City fan forum going as far as to suggest that the entirety of the 115 charges had already been dropped, with the public release of the outcome left to be debated privately.

However, according to the information of Mike Keegan, rumours suggesting that Manchester City’s charges have already been dropped are ‘not true’, amid comments from the top-flight’s CEO also having been issued in recent days.

Reporting on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, MailSport’s Mike Keegan stated, “There’s a rumour flying around that Manchester City’s charges have been dropped. (I’m) Told it’s not true.”

Speaking during a recent media address, Premier League CEO Richard Masters issued his own minor update on the situation as he explained, “We can’t comment on the case, the date is set. The case will resolve itself at some point in the near future.”

Manchester City have not commented on the matter since the charges were first released in the public domain, with their only admission being their official statement that showcased their confidence in themselves.

“Manchester City is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with,” the club said in a statement back in February 2023.

“The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”

For now, City remain focussed on matters on the field with an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title in their sights, while it is business as usual with regards to sponsorships, partnerships, and transfer business, as well as in the wider City Football Group.
