Norwich City are set to sign Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden
Norwich City are set to sign Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden in what is a significant deal for the Championship outfit.
The 23-year-old will join the likes of Jacob Wright, Jakov Medic, Harry Darling, Louie Moulden and Daniel Grimshaw, who have all moved to Carrow Road this summer.
Extra firepower should help the Canaries fight higher up the Championship next season after finishing 13th last season, although the Dane could end up being a replacement for USA international Josh Sargent, who is being consistently linked with a move away from Norfolk.
Liam Manning could be set to lose a huge source of goals in the form of Borja Sainz and Josh Sargent this summer, which has led the manager to recruit Kvistgaarden.
According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph via X, Norwich will pay an initial fee of £6.9 million for the young forward.
This number could rise with add-ons included in the deal, with Brondby retaining a sell-on clause in-case Kvistgaarden is sold on for mega money.
It had previously been reported that the Canaries would have to fork out around £11 million for Kvistgaarden, but have managed to reduce that figure during negotiations.
The Denmark international is expected to sign a four-year contract at Carrow Road.
French side Lens were strongly linked with a potential move for the young forward but once Norwich entered the picture, Manning’s side appeared to hold an advantage, with a switch to East Anglia preferred instead.
Kvistgaarden netted 23 times for Brondby last season and made his national team debut in May, but will now take the next step in his career with Norwich.
Josh Sargent has been the subject of extensive transfer speculation so far this summer, and it seems only a matter of time before he exits Carrow Road.
Sargent has bagged 44 goals across the last three Championship campaigns, and developed into one of the Canaries’ most important players as a result.
Clubs such as Wolfsburg, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Roma have all been linked with the 25-year-old, whilst Football League World exclusively revealed recently that Scott Parker’s Burnley side were also eyeing up a move for the USMNT striker.
Signing Kvistgaarden, who enjoyed an excellent goal return last season, will help the Canaries’ faithful deal with losing Sargent.
Although unproven at the Championship level, the young Danish forward clearly has potential and if tapped into, could become one of the division’s deadliest forwards.
Manning has previously shown to work well with young players and help develop their careers, which should be a source of increased optimism for Norwich City supporters ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
