Sorensen is set to continue his career in Norway with Brann Bergen after his Norwich contract was left to run out this summer
Former Norwich City midfielder Jacob Sørensen is set to sign for Norwegian side SK Brann after his departure from Carrow Road.
This is per a report from Bergens Tidende, who state that Brann have had to pay the highest signing-on fee in their history to bring in the former Norwich man, who was released at the end of his contract at the culmination of the 2024/25 season.
Sørensen spent five seasons at Carrow Road after signing a three-year deal upon arrival with the option to extend to a fourth, which Norwich enacted at the end of the 2022-23 term - he later went on to sign a one-year extension one year later.
But, after another season mired with injury, the 27-year-old didn't agree on a new deal in Norfolk, and is now set for a return to Scandinavia with the side currently second in Eliteserien.
Bergens Tidende have reported that Jacob Sørensen is close to signing for Brann, after they published a photo of the 27-year-old in the club's administration building wearing their shirt.
The paper states that the Norwegian side has forked out the largest signing-on fee in their history to bring in the former Norwich man for a contract which will be set to run out at the end of the 2028 campaign.
Sørensen came up through the youth squad in his Danish hometown of Esbjerg and made over 100 appearances for the club before Daniel Farke brought him to England in 2020.
And whilst his return to Scandinavia sees him join a club in Denmark's neighbouring country, he is set to become the fourth Dane currently to play in Brann's squad, with the Norwegian side already boasting Emil Kornvig, Mads Hansen and Japhet Sery Larsen in their ranks.
Brann currently sit second in Eliteserien, with a big top-of-the-table clash against first-placed Viking set for July 13. A win there would close the gap to six points with half of the season still to play.
Brann also begin their 2025/26 European campaign in the Champions League qualifying rounds later this month against RB Salzburg, too.
It's safe to say that Sørensen didn't enjoy the best of times during his five-year spell at Carrow Road, with a plethora of injuries stopping him from making a real impact at the club.
Having made 32 appearances en route to the 2021 Championship title, Sørensen wasn't preferred for large parts of the club's following Premier League season, but upon their return to the second tier, three major injuries in consecutive terms saw him play just 59 times in three campaigns.
But there is clear potential for the Dane to hit the ground running at his new club if he can stay fit, and he managed to end last season appearing in 16 of the final 18 Championship games, so he arrives at Brann having spent the final part of his Norwich career away from the treatment room.
If Brann has pushed the boat out to get him to sign with a lucrative sign-on bonus, they clearly have high hopes for him, too. They, and their fans, will be hoping that Sorensen can give them the boost they need throughout the rest of the 2025 campaign.
