Following his £9 million permanent switch from Norwich last summer – a major investment by the club – the Irish international went on to score 20 goals across all competitions.

Last season, Brendan Rodgers preferred to use him as an option off the bench, and even following Kyogo’s January transfer to Rennes, it was Daizen Maeda who assumed the central striking role.

Adam Idah has his critics within the Celtic fanbase

Critics within the fanbase still doubt whether Idah was worth the outlay, yet the 24 year-old maintains that his performances last season were decent and believes he can surpass them ahead of the campaign beginning competitively next month.

Remaining bullish about his goals to game ratio, Idah insists the more game-time he is given, the more goals the team will score.

Speaking at Celtic’s pre-season camp in Portugal, Idah said via Daily Record: “Yeah, 100 per cent. I said it last season. The more minutes I play, the more goals I’m going to score, and it’s a fact.”

Rodgers has openly admitted he will aim to strengthen his forward line over the coming weeks and is nearing an agreement for Japanese striker Shin Yamada, with the possibility of signing another striker as well as a few wingers. However, Idah is seemingly unfazed by this, especially after Kyogo and Nicolas Kuhn’s departures have clearly left gaps in the team.

“Look, the manager’s obviously right,” he said. “We’ve lost two big players that have contributed loads to the squad. So hopefully we can bring in some others that can help us out.”

“At the end of the day, we’re a team and we want to win games, win competitions and trophies, and we need the best players we can to do that. So I think regardless who we sign, I think the whole team will be happy for it, and they’ll add a really positive quality to the team.”
