May will commence with an absolute highlight: On the evening of 1 May, Borussia Dortmund will play the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. In addition to the return leg in Paris the following week, the final three Bundesliga matches of the season will take place this month.

Wednesday 1 May (21:00 CEST): BVB vs. Paris Saint-GermainThanks to a 4-2 home victory in their quarter-final return leg against Atlético Madrid (first leg: 2-1 defeat), BVB qualified for the UEFA Champions League semi-final and set up a meeting with Paris Saint-Germain. It is the fifth time the Black & Yellows have reached the semi-final of Europe’s top club competition, after 1964, 1997, 1998 and 2013. The French outfit got to the last four by winning 4-1 away to Barcelona following a 3-2 home defeat. BVB and PSG have already faced off this season: BVB lost 2-0 away from home in the first game of the Champions League group phase, then secured top spot in the group thanks to a 1-1 draw at home in the final match.

Saturday 4 May (15:30 CEST): BVB vs. FC AugsburgThe fixture calendar has lined up a Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg between the two semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain. BVB drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture in Augsburg in mid-December. The Black & Yellows have won the last five home games against the Bavarian Swabians by a combined scoreline of 18-9 – meaning there have been over five goals per match on average.

Tuesday 7 May (21:00 CEST): Paris Saint-Germain vs. BVBSix days after the first leg, a decision will be made as to who reaches the final of the UEFA Champions League, which will be played at Wembley Stadium in London on 1 June. BVB have previously reached a Champions League final on two occasions: Borussia beat Juventus in 1997, then lost in 2013 – also at Wembley – to FC Bayern Munich. Paris Saint-Germain have reached the final of the Champions League on one previous occasion, losing to Bayern Munich four years ago.

Saturday 11 May (18:30 CEST): 1. FSV Mainz 05 vs. BVBThere will still be two Bundesliga matches left to play when BVB travel to Mainz. FSV are still battling against relegation. The team currently sit in the relegation play-off place with 28 points and are two points adrift of safety. The reverse fixture at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK took place shortly before Christmas and ended in a 1-1 draw.

Saturday 18 May (15:30 CEST): BVB vs. SV Darmstadt 98 SV Darmstadt 98 became the first club to be relegated last weekend when they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Heidenheim. After one year in the Bundesliga, the Hesse outfit will play their last match in the division for the time being in Dortmund on the final matchday of the campaign. The Black & Yellows ran out 6-0 victors in their most recent meeting in the Ruhr region in 2016, while the reverse fixture at the start of the year ended in a 3-0 win for BVB.Christina Reinke
