The Jurgen Klopp Liverpool era is at an end, with the beloved Reds manager departing after an emotionally-charged day at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool defeated Wolves in Klopp’s final match in charge, with the German signing off having won a Carabao Cup this season and re-qualifying the club for the Champions League.

It might not have been a fairytale farewell as Liverpool were in contention for a unique quadruple when Klopp made his shock announcement but slipped out of contention for the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Europa League before the season drew to a close.

However, there were stirring goodbyes on Merseyside on Sunday with the 56-year-old now heading for a sabbatical after a nine-year tenure in charge.

It’s not the first time Klopp has made this kind of emotional impact during his career with tears and heartbreak following his departure from Borussia Dortmund back in 2015.

The manager won two league titles in charge of the Yellow and Blacks and also took his team to the 2013 Champions League final, where they were defeated by Bayern Munich.

Klopp is unlikely to return to management any time soon but a new career path has been mooted by former England international Gary Lineker, who has dropped a hint that the former defender could be on his way back to Signal Iduna Park.

President Klopp?

It was reported a few weeks back that Dortmund higher-ups were planning to create a new ‘Head of Football’ role for Klopp after his Anfield send-off, but BBC anchor Lineker now suggests there could be an even higher accolade on offer in Westphalia.

Klopp could return to Dortmund as club president, says the ex-striker, a position currently occupied by Dr. Reinhold Lunow.

"I'll also be interested to see what Klopp does next,” he said on the The Rest Is Football podcast. “I think he will definitely take some time out. I think he's genuine when he says he was running out of energy. You can see why, that job is so demanding.

“There will be a battle for him in a year or so's time. They'll be lining up for a year or so's time. I heard a little rumour he might end up being president of Borussia Dortmund, I don't know if there's any truth in that."
