Coventry City are looking for another strong season in the Championship with Frank Lampard entering his first full season as manager.

Coventry City are looking to build upon last season's playoff finish with another strong campaign under manager Frank Lampard.

The Sky Blues are entering their first full season under manager Frank Lampard after the former England international and Chelsea midfielder took over the reins at the CBS Area following the sacking of long-term boss Mark Robins.

Lampard joined the club in November 2024, with the club languishing in 17th place and just two points above the relegation places.

He not only managed to steady the ship but turned it fully around, eventually finishing the season in fifth place, narrowly losing out in the playoff semi-finals to Sunderland thanks to a late extra-time winner from Dan Ballard.

This summer, Coventry have brought in just three players, namely wing-back Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa for £3.5 million, left-back Miguel Angel Brau on a free from Granada and goalkeeper Carl Rushworth on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Sky Blues have recently been linked with a club-record £8 million plus add-ons bid for Hull City centre-back Charlie Hughes to bolster Lampard's defensive options.

Only Luis Binks has left the club for a fee, leaving the Coventry squad fairly similar and settled to last season.

However, with the transfer window not shutting until 7pm on September 1st, there is still time for a lot to happen in terms of incomings and outgoings, as Football League World looks a few players who could depart the club before the deadline.

Raphael Borges Rodrigues

Australian winger Borges Rodrigues signed for Coventry from A-League side Macarther FC last summer, but struggled to make any sort of impact in the first team at the CBS Arena since arriving.

The Aussie youth international, who is also eligible to represent Brazil and Netherlands, made just five first team appearances for the Sky Blues last season, playing a total of 38 minutes all season.

Borges Rodrigues, 21, missed the first half of the season due to a muscular problem, and would appear sporadically in the matchday squad througout the rest of the season, rarely getting on the pitch.

Under contract until 2028, the winger has time on his side to yet make an impact at Coventry, though his immediate future looks likely to be away from the club with a probable loan move.

Mlian van Ewijk

With the aforementioned Kesler-Hayden having already made the permanent switch from Aston Villa, Coventry has a ready-made replacement for Van Ewijk, who has been heavily linked with a move to German side VFL Wolfsburg in recent days, with talks between the player and club at an advanced stage.

The Sky Blues look set to at least double the money on the Dutch wing-back, having paid £3.5 million for Van Ewijk just two years ago.

The Dutch youth international looks almost nailed on to be departing for the Bundesliga side before the end of the window, where he will link up with his former manager at Heerenveen, Paul Simonis.

Norman Bassette

Forward Bassette has struggled to nail down a place in the Coventry squad since his move from Caen last summer, making just 25 appearances and less than 1,000 minutes in the Championship last season.

The Belgian forward has only managed to score just two goals for Coventry in the league, having to compete up top with Ellis Simms, Haji Wright and Brandon Thomas-Asante for minutes.

Bassette, 20, managed just 51 minutes of league football after matchweek 26 last season, with Lampard not trusting the young striker.

Under contract until 2028, the best form of action for Bassette might be a loan move away for the season and seeing whether he can break into the Coventry side in the coming years or earn himself a move away.
