According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida is set to join Premier League Sunderland on loan for €2.5m, with a €23m buy option clause. After being pursued by Marseille for the late stages of the window, the player has now travelled to the North of England to complete his medical with the Black Cats.Marsielle has identified the Dutch international defender as their priority signing after pulling the plug on a move for Club Brugge defender Joël Ordoñez. Having already overseen significant squad movement this summer – including the departure of Azzedine Ounahi to Girona and Jonathan Rowe to Bologna – OM’s hierarchy are now focused on strengthening their backline. The club have long pursued Club Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez, though negotiations have stalled amid the Belgian side’s reluctance to part ways with their Ecuadorian prospect. However, Marseille have tied up a move for Nayef Aguerd, who arrived in the city last night following the club’s 1-0 loss to Lyon in the Olimpico.
