Roma have zeroed in on Richard Rios and Wesley a while back and haven’t moved on from them, even though both negotiations are proving to be quite challenging. On the other hand, they quickly reached an agreement with the two players. They would be more than happy to join.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi have progressively gotten closer to the asking price for the Colombian midfielder. They had started from €25M, while Palmeiras insist on cashing in €30M without add-ons. The gap is minimal. It’d be surprising if the talks fell through this late in the game. Benfica are in the mix too but haven’t offered as much. The situation is a little more convoluted than normal because 30 percent of the fee will go to other teams, intermediaries, and subjects, including his family.
Roma have optimistically booked a slot for the medicals for later this week should they seal the Rios deal, while they’ll proceed for Wesley afterward. Flamengo demand €25M. The Serie A team isn’t far from meeting that threshold.
Instead, the Giallorossi have chosen Evan Ferguson to rival Artem Dovbyk up front. However, they aren’t that close to coming to terms with Brighton, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs (via Fantacalcio). While both sides have concurred on an initial loan, the Seagulls prefer a €45M obligation to buy, while the Italian club aims at a more modest option.
Signing players from South America is always a bit arduous and comes with the risk of having to adjust to completely new surroundings, but it appears they are approaching the finish line. Both potential newcomers, especially the former, are pretty established already.
