World Cup champion Rodrigo De Paul is reportedly on the verge of sealing a transfer to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the American club has reached terms with Atlético Madrid for the player, and will pay approximately £13m [€15m] for his services.
De Paul will leave the Spanish side after spending four years at the club. He scored 14 goals and provided 26 assists in 187 appearances.
While the two-time Copa America champion didn’t win silverware with Atléti, he was instrumental in securing Champions League qualification each year.
This will be Inter Miami’s marquee signing of this year. The La Liga midfielder will join a side that boasts the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
There’s no doubt that reuniting with Argentina teammate Messi was a major factor in De Paul’s move to the MLS.
The pair have achieved incredible success internationally, winning the Copa America in 2021 and again in 2024 as well as lifting the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
It’s been a big summer for Atlético Madrid, with the club having brought in five new players this summer and look to revamp their squad. The club also announced the departure of veteran Saúl Ñíguez, who spent 17 years at the club. Los Colchoneros would reportedly be looking at Javi Guerra as a potential replacement for the two midfielders.
Atlético have prioritised spending in the defence department and are looking at targets such as Feyenoord’s Dávid Hancko.
