River Plate have made initial contacts to try and sign Alexis Sanchez on a free transfer when his contract with Inter Milan expires.

This according to Argentine TyC Sports, via FCInter1908.

At the moment, Sanchez is under contract with Inter until the end of June.

Therefore, the Chilean’s deal expires in just two months.

And it does not look at all likely that Inter will hand Sanchez a new deal.

Sanchez re-joined Inter last summer. He came back on a free transfer just twelve months after he had left to join Marseille.

And it now looks as though the 35-year-old former Arsenal and Manchester United will once again leave Inter via the same route – a free transfer.

Sanchez has made a total of thirty appearances for Inter this season. The majority of these have been as a substitute.

The Chilean has scored four goals and assisted a further four.

Sanchez has proven a relatively reliable depth option in attack. But there is little sense that he is part of the plans for next season.

River Plate Make Initial Contacts About Signing Alexis Sanchez

What is less clear than Sanchez leaving Inter at the end of his contract, is where the 35-year-old will go next.

There is a fair bit of interest in Sanchez’s signature.

For example, Turkish side Trabzonspor consider the Chilean to be a target according to reports. And there is also interest from the Saudi Pro League.

But it could be one of Sanchez’s former clubs who bring the Inter forward back.

According to TyC sports, Argentine giants River Plate consider Sanchez a target.

Not only that, but River’s interest has already taken the form of initial contacts with the 35-year-old’s representatives.

River would not have to negotiate with Inter, naturally. Only with Sanchez and his representatives.

However, a potential problem would be represented by Sanchez’s nationality.

Per league regulations, River are allowed to have no more than six non-Argentine players in their squad.

At present, there are five. Therefore, if River were to sign Sanchez then he would take up the fifth and final spot.
