Matteo Darmian could have a tactical shift at Inter Milan if Udinese defender Oumar Solet signs for the Nerazzurri this summer.

Matteo Darmian is heading into his sixth season as an Inter Milan player.

The veteran former Manchester United and Torino defender has marked himself out for his versatility across his time at the Nerazzurri.

Darmian’s most common position on the pitch for Inter is at right-wingback. However, he can also feature on the left flank, or on the right of the back three.

Right now, Darmian can play at either right-wingback or right-centre-back for Inter.

In defense, the 35-year-old is one of the options for the right side of the back three alongside Benjamin Pavard and Yann Bisseck.

Meanwhile, at right-wingback there are Denzel Dumfries and Luis Henrique covering the position.

However, reports indicate that Inter could sell Benjamin Pavard before the summer transfer window closes.

And the player who the Nerazzurri have reportedly earmarked to replace the former Bayern Munich defender is Udinese’s Oumar Solet.

However, the Gazzetta report, Inter do not see Solet as primarily a right-sided defender.

Rather, the Nerazzurri feel that the Frenchman’s main role would be in the centre of the back three. He could be versatile enough to cover any of the three slots, though.

In any event, if Solet were to replace Pavard, it would leave Inter with just Bisseck and Darmian as natural right-sided options in defense.

Therefore, the Gazzetta predict, that would become Darmian’s sole position in the team. Meanwhile, there would be plenty of coverage at wingback with both Dumfries and Henrique.
