One of such episodes was the much talked about foul on Tommaso Baldanzi in the final minutes of Monza 1-1 Roma.

“The last day put us in difficulty because we made some mistakes in our interpretations. The difference between those who comment and us is that we have to follow a precise rule.”

“If, according to the rule, the decisions are correct, it is complicated to make everyone accept them. Sometimes it is difficult to make certain choices understood, both for us and for those who watch.”

“VAR was born with the idea of intervening only in the case of serious errors. We are not off track, we are aligned with European competitions and other leagues, except the Premier League. However, the intervention of VAR has expanded.”

“Sometimes there are different opinions between those who are at VAR and those who watch the game from outside, and the aim is to make the line of intervention as clear as possible.”

“However, there is still a margin of subjectivity: what may seem like a foul to us, may not be so to others.”
