This past month or so has shown that Real Madrid veteran midfielder Luka Modric still remains an elite footballer with plenty left to offer at the highest level.
It is true that the Croatian has lost significance in Carlo Ancelotti’s scheme of things this season with the Italian looking at the future. But every time he has been called upon, Modric has delivered more often than not.
During the past few weeks, the 38-year-old has showcased his worth, making vital contributions off the bench in both matches against Manchester City, impressing in the Clasico while doing well again last night vs Real Sociedad.
Given that Modric’s contract expires at the end of the season and the fact that he had lost some prominence this term have led to speculations that he would leave in the summer.
However, according to the latest update from journalist Jose Felix Diaz (h/t Madrid Xtra), Modric is now ‘increasingly likely’ to continue at Real Madrid for one more season.
At 38, Modric is very much in the final phase of his career and it appears that he would prefer to stay at the Spanish capital club for one more season rather than move to the MLS or even his former club Dinamo Zagreb.

In fact, it has even been suggested that the former Tottenham Hotspur man would prefer to retire with the Merengues.
With Toni Kroos set to continue and now Modric also appearing likely to stay, it will be a great move for Real Madrid.
While the veteran duo might not play as much in the next season, just having their wealth of experience and knowledge in the dressing room would be of immense value.
Youngsters like Jude Bellingham, Brahim Diaz, and Arda Guler can benefit from being around them and continue to learn under the club legends.
