Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has found himself under scrutiny after a string of disappointing displays this season.
The French international has been facing strong criticism for his performances as a makeshift centre-back, with fans even hijacking his social media post after the Super Cup defeat, asking him to leave. Tchouaméni responded with resilience and reflection, sharing a cryptic message on Instagram after the game.
Last night, at the Santiago Bernabeu, Tchouameni started as a central midfielder in the Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash against Celta Vigo.
And during the pre-match announcement of line-ups for the match, the former AS Monaco man, alongside Lucas Vazquez and even coach Carlo Ancelotti, was booed by sections of the home crowd at the Bernabeu.
Amidst the jeers, Tchouameni started in his natural midfield position for the first time in several matches, facing dual pressure: the challenge from the opposition and the discontent of the home fans.
Playing the full 120 minutes of the match, Tchouameni showed glimpses of promise while stationed in front of the central defenders. He also ssisted Federico Valverde in scoring Real Madrid’s fourth goal, contributing to the team’s eventual victory.
While Tchouameni did not address the media directly following the game, he took to social media to share a cryptic message after the events at the Bernabeu.
The 24-year-old made a post on Instagram, sharing photos of the game. Accompanying the images was a reflective caption: “What does not kill you…” followed by an emoji of a soothing head massage.
The Frenchman’s post drew support from his teammates and others in the footballing world. Vinicius Jr. commented, “Keep going!” while Lucas Vázquez and Raul Asencio also provided support.
Chelsea’s Axel Disasi and former player Rio Mavuba also expressed their encouragement.
Tchouameni’s response to the recent criticism, both on and off the pitch, highlights his determination to overcome adversity. Having showed signs of improvement against Celta, the midfielder must continue on the same track to win over the disgruntled fans.
