Real Madrid midfielder’s conceded penalty tarnishes a good performance in the 1-1 draw against Osasuna

After the loss to Espanyol and the draw against Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid dropped even more points in La Liga last Saturday as they could muster only a draw against Osasuna.

These dropped points proved to be quite costly, as the Merengues lost their top spot in the league table after Barcelona defeated Rayo Vallecano in the league game last night.

Both of these matches were filled with controversial refereeing decisions. In the match between Real Madrid and Osasuna, Jude Bellingham was shown a straight red card for his alleged verbal abuse directed against the referee, even though video evidence suggests that this was not the case. Furthermore, Osasuna were also awarded a penalty, which they scored to equalise the scores.

Both these actions will go on to further fuel the controversy that is already reigning in Spain regarding referee decisions.

In the second action, that of the penalty, the Merengues would be feeling hard done by because the ball was once again nowhere near Ante Budimir when Eduardo Camavinga stomped on his foot.

However, one can argue that the Frenchman still needed to be more careful, especially considering the fact that Real Madrid had conceded another penalty in a similar fashion in their last league game against Atletico Madrid.

Thus, the penalty, which was essential in helping Osasuna grab a draw in this game, ended up tarnishing the French midfielder’s otherwise good performance on the night.

Camavinga was back in the starting lineup for this game and played the full 90 minutes. During this time, he was impressive in almost all aspects of his game. His passing was quite good, as Sofascore statistics show that he completed 58 of his 66 passes on the night, thus recording an 88% success rate. The Frenchman also ended up providing 1 key pass and completed 5 of his 6 attempted long passes.

Similarly, he won 7 of the 9 ground he was involved in, even though he was not as successful in the air, as he won only 4 of his 11 aerial duels. He also won 5 fouls on the night, while giving away only 1 foul, which ended up being the most influential action of the game as it gave the hosts the penalty.

Otherwise, he also put in a good defensive shift, making 3 clearances, 3 tackles, and blocking 1 shot. He was not dribbled past even once in this game.

Thus, the penalty, which was rather dubious to begin with, ended up tarring another good performance from the Real Madrid midfielder.
