Real Madrid legend’s return to the club unlikely for two reasons | OneFootball

There is no doubt that Real Madrid have a significantly weaker squad for this season as compared to the one they had for the last season. Two hugely important players, Toni Kroos and Nacho Fernandez, left the club last summer, and the Merengues started this campaign without replacing any of them.

While Ancelotti still has several options for his midfield, the team’s defence is spread rather thin this season. Antonio Rudiger has been the only reliable centre-back for Real Madrid this season, as Eder Militao has been facing several physical issues and David Alaba is yet to return from his ACL tear. Jesus Vallejo is present in the team but remains a very unreliable option.

In such circumstances, an interesting option opened up for Real Madrid in the last few days. Due to Dani Carvajal’s long-term injury, the Merengues can sign a free agent even outside of the normal transfer windows, just as Barcelona did with Wojciech Szczesny after Ter Stegen’s injury.

As MARCA has reported, the option of signing one of their biggest legends, Sergio Ramos, has opened up for Los Blancos, as he is currently without a club. However, this is not an option that attracts Real Madrid for several reasons.

Firstly, Sergio Ramos’ 38 years of age makes him an unenviable target for the Merengues, as the European champions follow a policy of focusing on younger talents. Thus, they are more inclined towards the signing of players like Castello Lukeba (21), Jorrel Hato (18), and Vitor Reis (18).

Secondly, there is also an unwritten rule at the Merengue club that you cannot return to it once you have left it. This has been experienced by some of Real Madrid’s biggest legends in its history, including Alfredo di Stefano and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Thus, despite his legendary status, Real Madrid are not thinking of getting Ramos back, and believe they will able to course through this season without him.
