Even though Dean Huijsen has arrived, Real Madrid are not ruling out the addition of another centre-back in the ongoing summer transfer window.

At present, the central defence is the area that generates the most concern both for the coaching staff and the club’s board.

Performances in the FIFA Club World Cup and the physical condition of some of the current defenders have made reinforcing the centre of defence a priority.

As such, MARCA reports that two names are leading the list of possible centre-back reinforcements for Real Madrid – Ibrahima Konate and William Saliba.

A move for Konate in the works

As per the report, discussions at Valdebebas have increasingly included Konate, the Liverpool centre-back, whose contract expires on 30 June 2026.

The English champions strongly believe that the Real Madrid board has already made early moves for the player with an eye on next season, when he would become available for free.

After all, renewal talks have not progressed according to plans, raising concerns over his future at Anfield.

However, in the coming weeks, Real Madrid may consider an early move for Konate.

Liverpool’s board are not expected to let him go cheaply, but they are also aware they cannot afford to lose such a player for nothing.

Recent reports have suggested that the Premier League title-holders could ask for at least €50 million for the 26-year-old defender.

Real Madrid, however, would not be willing to pay more than €20-25 million for a player in the last year of his contract and ready to make the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
