Niko Kovac (to DAZN): “We struggled to get into the game. Union bypassed the midfield with lots of long balls. The key is to move the ball around much faster and have only a few touches. Things improved after 20 minutes. All things considered, we dominated the game and deserved to win. Serhou Guirassy is a very important player for us who scores goals even in difficult situations. Aaron Anselmino produced a world-class performance. That's why we signed him. He's physically fit. He just needs to get into his rhythm.”
Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): “We had to improve and we did improve after the game away to St. Pauli. It was a significant step forward. We kept a clean sheet. It was ultimately a commanding victory, even if it took us a little while to get into the game.”
Serhou Guirassy (to DAZN): “We had to respond after the poor performance away to St. Pauli. We did that, we owed it to our fans. It was rehearsed (editor's note: the one-two before the goal for 2-0). We work on things like that. I'm happy that the coach has extended his contract. That was good news.”
Waldemar Anton (in the mixed zone): “We had big ambitions and showed many good things. It was a commanding 3-0 victory. It does all of us good. We demonstrated the intensity that we lacked against St. Pauli from the outset. At home in particular, we approach matches with confidence. Today, we demonstrated our capabilities. We now simply need to keep going and consistently perform at our highest level.”
Julian Brandt (to DAZN): “There's a lot of potential in the team. We showed that in the second half. We just need to believe in ourselves. We lacked that away to St. Pauli and we lacked it again in the first 25 minutes today. After that, we started moving the ball around. Possession is one of our strengths. The goal that made it 2-0 was very nice. That's what the fans come to the stadium to see. Then we start to enjoy ourselves, which does us good. Against a five-man defence like Union's, there is space in front of and behind the centre-backs. We did better at the end of the first half when Sabi (editor's note: Marcel Sabitzer) and Yan Couto rotated a lot. That creates unease. That creates space.”Transcribed by Boris Rupert
