RB Leipzig attacker Christoph Baumgartner was among four changes employed by RB head coach Ole Werner in Saturday’s Bundesliga fixture against Heidenheim. The Austrian international – linked with a move to Crystal Palace recently – proved a crucial difference maker in the team’s 2-0 home victory.
Ole Werner’s German Red Bulls were able to successfully bounce back from their humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich last Friday night. Baumgartner scored his club’s first Bundesliga goal of the new campaign with a gorgeous shake-off of his marker and elegant finish in the 48th minute.
Speaking to Sky Germany after the full-time whistle, Baumgartner directly addressed the Palace rumors and insisted that he would be remaining in Saxony. The 26-year-old looked was very effective in midfield working alongside exciting new RB signing Ezechiel Banzuzi.
Baumgartner’s Austrian compatriot Oliver Glasner may be calling him to South London, but the 51-times-capped international likes where he is just fine. The man-of-the-match thanked RB for sticking with him.
“The club is counting on me and they believe in me,” Baumgartner told Sky. “That’s been demonstrated to me once again, particularly in the last few days. I’m at a great club, I feel comfortable, and I want to help the team.“
