QPR have played themselves out of the relegation zone in the Championship.

Martí Cifuentes has earned a lot of praise for his work since taking charge of the first team squad at the end of October.

He took over a side that was struggling in the bottom three of the table, and has overseen their rise to 20th in the standings.

But with eight games still to go, their survival in the second division is still far from guaranteed.

The gap to the relegation zone is just one point as clubs prepare to return to action following the March international break.

A big game at home to Birmingham City on Friday afternoon could have big ramifications for both sides’ hopes of securing their place in the Championship for another year.

Here we look at the latest QPR news ahead of their game against the Blues…

QPR set to compete for National League star

According to Dan Marsh, QPR are among a number of EFL clubs eyeing a move for Dan Ellison this summer.

The Chippenham Town defender has performed well this season and has attracted the attention of several sides in the Football League.

Chippenham are hoping to secure a deal worth up to £10,000, as well as a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

QPR face competition for Ellison from the likes of Leyton Orient and Blackpool in League One.

Reading are also interested in the 18-year-old, but are unable to agree terms due to a transfer embargo placed on them by the EFL.

According to London Football News, the Hoops have offered a trial to Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kieran Morgan ahead of a potential permanent move.

The Spurs academy player has an expiring contract at the end of the campaign and could be the latest player to make the switch from a London rival to QPR’s academy.

It has also been reported that Fulham’s Ma’kel Bogle-Campbell, West Ham’s Blaise Uwandji and Ipswich Town’s pair Henry Curtis and Nick Nkansa-Dwamena have also been taken in on trial.

The quintet of players all featured in an U18 game against Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week, with a view to a potential move to Loftus Road.

This has been a recent transfer strategy from Rangers, with Eberechi Eze being the most high profile success story, signing to QPR from Millwall’s academy before becoming a Premier League player with Crystal Palace.

Michael Beale spent just a few months in charge at Loftus Road before jumping ship for Scottish giants Rangers in November 2022.

Former director of football at QPR, Les Ferdinand, has opened up on the situation that led to his departure.

The former striker claimed that there was no way they could stand in Beale’s way as he plotted a return to Ibrox, where he has previously been an assistant manager.

“And then Rangers came in,” said Ferdinand, via the Stick to Football podcast.

“To be honest, when he came to the football club, and we’ve all done it.

“When people talk to me about Newcastle it was the best period of my life in football.

“I have fond, fond memories of Newcastle.

“Michael Beale had fond memories of Rangers.

“Whenever he spoke about any of the clubs he’s been at, Rangers was the one he spoke about with most fondness.

“I always said to the owners if we’re going to lose Michael Beale, in a year or two, I think it will be to Rangers.

“That’s the only club, unbeknown they were going to come as soon as they did.

“Him thinking this may never happen again.

“When he came to us and said he was interested, you know he’s not interested here anymore.”
