Tymoteusz Puchacz has been an instant hit at Home Park since signing on loan last month

If you’ve got the right character about you, it doesn’t take long for the Green Army to take you under their wing, and that already looks to be the case with Tymoteusz Puchacz at Plymouth Argyle.

The Polish full-back joined on loan from German side Holstein Kiel in the January transfer window, and has already made a massive impact in his role on the left-side of defence over the past month.

The tenacity of his performances will have endeared him to the Home Park faithful, with his love for defending seeing him seamlessly take his spot in a new-look defensive line in Devon, alongside Maxi Talovierov and Nikola Katic.

The Greens are said to have an option of making the 26-year-old’s deal permanent in the summer, and the early signs prove that to be a deal that will be well worth their while, with the defender having the potential to be a cult hero in the making.

Plymouth Argyle will be delighted with early Tymoteusz Puchacz signs

Puchacz made his first appearance in green as a substitute in the 1-0 victory over Brentford in the FA Cup last month, which marked quite the start to life in English football.

That win in the capital was a far cry from the day-to-day dross of the Championship before he came to the club, with Argyle rooted to the bottom of the second tier table after Wayne Rooney’s disaster show, but he has since played his part in turning things around in the past month.

Miron Muslic’s arrival conceded with that cup upset, and the Austrian has since made the Pilgrims a force to be reckoned with, his loan star starting all five of the league games under the new boss, before missing the 5-1 thrashing of Millwall in midweek due to injury.

His intensity and aggression out of possession has helped to stop the opposition in their tracks of late, with Argyle discovering a newfound steeliness to their defensive efforts, with the Pole contributing to the energy in wide areas with and without the ball.

Having been forced to play in a more central position due to a lack of defensive personnel, the Pole was back in his usual spot for the victory over West Bromwich Albion earlier in the month, and provided a bit of quality that has been lacking at Home Park for much of the season to set up Ryan Hardie’s winner.

His can opener of a left foot wrapped a ball around the defence for the Scotsman to waltz onto, before firing past Alex Palmer at the second attempt to earn a first league win in 16 games, and give the Green Army hope of a great escape.

As well as that, a fierce delivery from set-pieces has helped to pose another threat from deadfall situations, with the arrival of Hubert Auer as a specialised coach for those scenarios likely to play into his hands even more in the conic months.

While Nathanael Ogbeta played well in his absence against the Lions, Puchacz is a step above anything Argyle have in that area right now; he is solid and dependable, and doesn’t take unnecessary risks, something that Bali Mumba could learn from in a similar role.

Plymouth Argyle’s mind must be made up over summer Tymoteusz Puchacz action

Argyle will be rubbing their hands together at the thought of making Puchacz theirs permanently in the summer, with the Greens already feeling the benefits of his presence on the left-side of defence.

When playing a back five, you need your wing-backs to be capable of quality at both ends of the pitch, and the Polish international has proven he can produce magic moments in and out of possession in his brief time in green, and will continue to do so in the future.

That deal will likely be effected by what division Argyle find themselves in when all is said and done at the end of the season, with the fight against relegation still on despite their recent upsurge.

But the way they are playing now, they will believe they can get points off of anyone in the division, and Puchacz has played a major part in rebuilding the faith in Devon once more.

We could well be witnessing another Devonport darling in the making right now, and the Green Army are becoming more enraptured every week with their new Polish Pilgrim.
