Paul Pogba is set to resume his professional career with AS Monaco after agreeing a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 club.
The 32-year-old has been a free agent since parting ways with Juventus in November 2024 and has now accepted a significant pay cut to join the Principality side.
Pogba had offers from clubs in the Middle East and Major League Soccer, including interest from Al-Ittihad, but opted for a return to French football and Champions League competition.
According to French outlets Le Parisien and Foot Mercato, Pogba reached an agreement with Monaco on Sunday following several days of negotiations.
The midfielder had travelled to the region in early June to meet club officials and assess off-pitch logistics, including accommodation and security arrangements.
His last professional appearance came in September 2023 for Juventus against Empoli, shortly before he tested positive for DHEA, a banned substance.
Initially suspended for four years, Pogba saw his ban reduced to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and he became eligible to play again in March 2025.
Monaco, who finished third in Ligue 1 last season and secured Champions League qualification, moved quickly once they were offered the chance to sign the France international.
Their interest dates back to the winter window but was shelved at the time due to financial constraints and concerns over fitness.
This summer, however, with Pogba keen to return and willing to compromise on salary, Monaco capitalised on stalled talks between Pogba and other suitors.
The move will mark Pogba’s first spell in Ligue 1, having previously played for Manchester United and Juventus, and trained at Le Havre in his youth.
He has won 91 caps for France and was a key part of the squad that lifted the World Cup in 2018.
Pogba had hinted at his return in a recent Instagram post, writing: “I think it’s time,” and has since been spotted at high-profile matches in Miami and Cannes.
His move to Monaco is seen as a major coup for the club and for Ligue 1, with the midfielder expected to join pre-season training in July.
The deal runs until June 2027.
