Real Madrid welcomed Franco Mastantuono into the fold last week, nearly two months after completing his signing from River Plate in a deal worth total €63 million.

Having spent so heavily on the 18-year-old, Los Blancos went forward and registered him as a reserve team player and gave him the No. 30 shirt instead of handing him a first-team licence.

This has sparked some controversy in Spain as it has been suggested that Real Madrid could expose themselves to possible sanctions registering the youngster with the B team when he will be a first-team player for all intents and purposes.

In fact, earlier today reports emerged warning Los Blancos about a possible ‘improper lineup’ complaint being lodged against them by their opponents in the La Liga opener tonight – Osasuna.

Osasuna not pursuing any legal action

However, as per the latest update from journalist Arancha Rodriguez on COPE, Osasuna have no intentions of filing an ‘improper lineup’ complaint against Real Madrid over the registration of Mastantuono.

Los Rojillos believe that Real Madrid are not breaking any rules by doing so, since it is common practice to register young players with a reserve team card to play for the first team.

Real Madrid, for their part, have also done due diligence on the matter, consulting several lawyers from outside the club and have been assured that there is no ‘case’ against their manoeuvre.

As has been reported previously, Mastantuono himself is understood to have requested the No. 30 shirt at Real Madrid, having previously worn it at River Plate.

Considering that first-team players can only be handed numbers between 1 and 25 in La Liga, Los Blancos decided to register him with a reserve-team licence and give him his desired number.

The move also allows Real Madrid to have a vacant spot in the 25-man La Liga squad in the off chance there are any late signings made.
