Eberechi Eze’s stunning 16th-minute volley was enough to seal a historic FA Cup triumph for Crystal Palace, sending their long-suffering fans into raptures and putting years of heartbreak behind them.

The Eagles, who had fallen short in two previous FA Cup finals - in 1990 and again in 2016 - finally got their hands on their first ever major trophy.

In doing so, they became the first English club since Wigan Athletic in 2013 to win a maiden major title - and just like Wigan, they did it by beating Manchester City in the final.

A huge part of Palace’s fairytale is down to manager Oliver Glasner. The Austrian took charge 15 months ago, and while the team showed promising signs towards the end of last season, this campaign didn’t start smoothly - they went without a Premier League win until late October. But since then, things have completely turned around, with Glasner transforming Palace into one of the most exciting sides in the league and now, FA Cup champions.

Now, Glasner becomes the first manager in the club’s history to lift a major trophy - and the first Austrian to ever win the FA Cup.

It’s not his first taste of silverware either; he guided Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League glory back in 2022. And now he’ll be leading Palace into that very same competition next season - their first ever appearance in a major European tournament.

And the celebrations might not stop there. Palace have also booked themselves a return trip to Wembley in August, where they’ll face Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield. With momentum on their side, the Eagles could well be eyeing up yet another piece of silverware.
