All the way back in November 2024, Edu Gaspar decided to leave Arsenal, with rumours that he was under consideration for a role with Evangelos Marinakis’ group of clubs, which includes Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest.

Edu completed his notice period before publicly speaking on his departure in April 2025, with reports then suggesting Forest were edging closer to an official announcement of his appointment.

But it took another three months for that announcement to finally arrive, with Forest posting a statement on their website this week.

Forest have confirmed that Edu will work in a newly-established role as their global head of football, overseeing their football operations. That will involve overseeing recruitment, performance, squad strategy, and player development.

“I’m truly excited about this new chapter and honoured by the trust placed in me,” Edu said. “This project connects deeply with my values around innovation and long-term planning.

“I look forward to building a global football model that is competitive, sustainable, and aligned with our President’s ambition.”

Edu has already reportedly been working for Marinakis on an informal basis, but he’s now set to do so in an official capacity. Back at Arsenal, the Gunners have long since replaced their former sporting director with Andrea Berta.
