The Tricky Trees revealed the player’s departure via a post on their official club website this evening.
Harkin has opted to continue playing in the non-elite game rather than making the step up to Barclays WSL2 football with Nottingham Forest.
The defender has enjoyed two spells with Nottingham Forest in which she has chalked up more than 300 appearances for the club in all competitions. Harkin has made a huge contribution towards The Reds’ successes in her time at the club.
After her Nottingham Forest departure was announced, Harkin said “The overwhelming emotion is pride having played for this club for such a long time and getting to wear the badge so many times, it’s been a huge honour not just for myself but for my family as well.
“It’s been amazing. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the Club and what they have done for me and my family.
“Being from Nottingham and growing up here, it’s important for me to give back to the community. There’s a lot of young girls growing up in the city and I would like to share my experiences and guide them on their journey.
“To the Forest fans, I want to say a huge thank you for supporting us through all of the ups and downs, you’ve been here through it all and to lift the trophy at The City Ground at the end of the season was the icing on the cake.”
Harkin will continue her links with Nottingham Forest by taking up a role of Club Ambassador while there are plans for her to join the Women’s Board.
