The former Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper could soon be heading to Carrow Road

Norwich City are reportedly on course to sign Crystal Palace goalkeeper Louie Moulden.

The move was reported by local news site Pink Un, where it was revealed Moulden is set to become one of the goalkeeping options at Carrow Road.

It was reported by journalist Alan Nixon last summer that Bolton Wanderers, Moulden’s hometown club, were interested in signing him, before he ended up at Palace in August.

Now available once more, it seems the Canaries are winning the race.

The Pink Un revealed that Moulden, who was recently released by Palace, is set to become Norwich’s latest signing.

He would also join some familiar faces, linking back up with head of goalkeeping Tony Roberts, who he worked with at Wolverhampton Wanderers before moving to Palace.

Moulden is likely to join as the third-choice gloveman for the Canaries, but will most likely hope to battle for minutes as he moves away from academy football age categories.

Journalist Connor Southwell, who first reported this news for the Pink Un, claimed that the move could be announced as early as this week.

Moulden part of goalkeeping shake up for the Canaries

Moulden is not the only moving part in Roberts’ goalkeeping department, a factor that he will hope allows him gaps to prove himself to the first team.

The big news came towards the end of the season, that no.1 shot-stopper Angus Gunn was not to have his contract renewed when it expires later this month.

The club are also willing to listen to offers for George Long, Vicente Reyes and Dan Barden, according to the Pink Un, which could mean an entirely new set of faces in that department for Norwich at the start of next season.

The Canaries have already signed Dan Grimshaw from Plymouth Argyle, and are reportedly eyeing Sporting’s Vladan Kovacevic and Leicester City’s Jakub Stolarczyk in their hunt for a main man between the sticks.

Norwich could be a good move for Moulden

While going to be a third-in-command is not the most obvious route to first-team football, being at a club like Norwich will certainly do Moulden no harm.

He failed to make a senior appearance for Palace in his year there, spending the vast majority of his time around the U21s.

He won’t be the main man at Norwich, but he will at least be in the senior set-up, training with the first team goalkeepers, potentially get into matchday squads and maybe even be afforded the odd cup game.

Moulden has senior minutes with Rochdale, Ebbsfleet United, Solihull Moors, Northampton Town and Gloucester City, so is not short on experience, but nothing comparable to the quality he’ll find at Norwich.

Now 23 years old, Moulden is ready to make the transition into a full-fledged senior goalkeeper; doing that at a big club like Norwich, away from the harsh scrutiny of being a no.1, may be the best first step on that journey.
