Newcastle United are interested in a move for Juventus defender Nicolo Savona, following his breakout season in Serie A (Sky Sports).
The 22-year-old made 28 Serie A appearances for the Italian club last term.
Praised by manager Igor Tudor as a player with ‘great football intelligence’, Savona won 33 percent of his aerial and 56% of his ground duels per 90 minutes.
He stepped up to the plate when Juventus needed reinforcement due to injuries, displacing captain Danilo. His performances reportedly caught the attention of Newcastle.
It is unclear why Newcastle are interested in a player who is out of action for the next two months after picking up an injury during the FIFA Club World Cup.
Newcastle need a right-back to compete with Valentino Livramento and should be considering a move for Strasbourg star Guela Doue.
He was immense for the Ligue 1 side last season and is due a big move this summer.
Newcastle would face competition from AC Milan for Doue. The French side wants €35 million to sanction a sale.
The Magpies may enjoy more success in their search for defensive reinforcement after failing with moves for attackers Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike.
Centre-forward target Yoane Wissa would also prefer a switch to Tottenham Hotspur over a move to Newcastle.
Despite qualifying for the Champions League, the club are finding it difficult to attract players to St James’ Park.
