According to Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that AS Monaco are refusing to give up on their attempt to sign Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer.
Despite the goalkeeper’s clear intention to stay, Monaco remain interested and are keeping the door open for a potential transfer.
Barcelona have made significant changes in their goalkeeping department. Joan Garcia has joined the club on a long-term contract until 2031, while Wojciech Szczesny’s deal has been renewed until 2027.
With both keepers now ahead of Ter Stegen in the pecking order, Barça have opened the door for his departure.
As such, Hansi Flick has already had a direct conversation with Ter Stegen about the situation. During this meeting, Flick explained that the German would not be part of his main plans this season.
Instead, he would serve as the third-choice keeper, behind Garcia and Szczesny. Despite this, Ter Stegen made his own position very clear that he wants to stay at Barcelona and fight for his place.

Monaco have been aware of this scenario for weeks. They already contacted Ter Stegen’s representatives earlier this summer but received a negative response from the goalkeeper, who has no desire to leave Barcelona.
Still, the Ligue 1 club have not ruled out trying again.
Monaco are searching for stability in goal after an inconsistent season, and Ter Stegen, who is also wanted by Galatasaray, remains their top target. He is seen as a reliable and experienced option to solve their goalkeeping issues.
During recent talks between Barcelona and Monaco regarding Ansu Fati, both clubs also discussed several potential deals, including a possible arrangement for Ter Stegen.
There would be no financial hurdles, as the two sides are open to sharing the German’s salary if needed. However, the veteran German intends to fight for his place at Barcelona.
