Bafana Bafana winger Mohau Nkota scored his first goal in the Saudi Pro League as his new team Al-Ettifaq beat Al-Okhdood 2-1 in their season opener on Wednesday
It took the speedy starlet seven minutes to open his account, having completed a move to the oil rich kingdom last month. Ettifaq are currently at the summit of the table as former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum sealed the victory in the 64th minute.
Nkota joined Orlando Pirates’ reserve team in the 2021/22 season before earning a promotion to the senior team under then- head coach Jose Riveiro last season and made an immediate impact on the right flank.
The 20-year-old introduced himself to the South African football fraternity with an eye-catching performance on his first-ever start against the now-defunct SuperSport United, prior to scoring a brace against AmaZulu the subsequent match.
In addition to his exploits on the domestic scene, the Bucs academy product illuminated the stage with yet another brace, this time against Algerian giants, CR Belouizdad, in the CAF Champions League group stages last year in November.
Now, in Saudi, Nkota has been joined by compatriot Elias Mokwana, who recently completed a season-long loan to newly promoted Al-Hazem from Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis. The Bafana internationals will share the stage with Cristiano Ronaldo, among other global superstars.
