Roberto Mancini once again expressed regret over leaving the managerial position of the Italian National Team, with whom he won a European Championship. The 60-year-old coach has also opened the door to a possible return to managing the Italian team, following the resignation of Spalletti.

"If [Gabriele] Gravina [president of the FIGC, Italian Football Federation] and I had spoken more during those weeks to clarify certain situations, nothing would have happened. But sometimes, wrong decisions are made. It's true that I no longer felt the same trust, but I should have spoken to the President. I could have done it, the fault is mine," the former Manchester City manager said to Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Today, who knows, we might still be together trying to reach the World Cup and, perhaps, after having won the European Championship, trying for a double."

While with Italy, the current advisor to Sampdoria managed the national team in 61 matches, accumulating 37 wins, 15 draws, and nine losses. To the Italian press, Mancini recalled his tenure with the national team and opened the door to a return.

"For a coach, there is nothing better than managing the national team. I have won with clubs, but with Italy it's different. At Coverciano [headquarters of the national team], I got along well with everyone. What's missing now What I can say is that I know many of the players who are there today and I felt sorry. It would be a good challenge for me, no doubt. It would also be a good risk, but sometimes you have to take risks."

Gennaro Gattuso is another name associated with the Italian job. The former AC Milan midfielder's most recent managerial spell came in Croatia while in charge of Hajduk Split.
