Harry Redknapp has told Manchester United to ‘stick with Harry Maguire up front’ after the defender’s dramatic winner against Lyon.
Maguire scored a 121st-minute winner as Manchester United won 5-4 against Lyon on Thursday to reach the Europa League semi-finals.
The centre-back was thrust forward in the closing stages, with the Red Devils trailing 4-2 with just six minutes of extra time remaining. Maguire scored the decisive goal to cap an astonishing comeback from Ruben Amorim’s side.
It’s the second time this season that Maguire has rescued a result after being used as an auxiliary forward, after netting a late equaliser against Porto in October.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth manager Redknapp believes using Maguire in attack is an option Amorim should consider across the run-in. With Joshua Zirkzee out injured and Rasmus Hojlund struggling for form, Redknapp said Maguire can offer the Red Devils a focal point.
“I’d stick with Harry Maguire up front. I would, I swear,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.
“He gets on the end of things, he’s a target. I’d work with him there for the next couple of weeks. They haven’t got anybody. The other boy (Hojlund) can’t score a goal. I’d get him (Maguire) on diagonals.
“I’d get people around him. He’d be like Crouchy (Peter Crouch) or something.”
