Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has decided to give Casemiro an opportunity to keep his place in his squad for another season.

INEOS headed into their first summer in charge of United with an aim of improving the club’s financial situation by making significant sales and trimming their wage bill in order to rejuvenate Ten Hag’s squad without any concerns over FFP regulations.

Multiple reports suggested Casemiro would be one of the early names to depart Old Trafford this summer, with clubs from Saudi Arabia credited with serious interest in his services.

The 32-year-old is one of the highest-paid players at the club. He endured a difficult season, and according to a report in The Sun, his relationship with the United manager “had broken down towards” the end of the last season.

The former Real Madrid man was also absent from the starting lineup for United’s FA Cup final clash against Manchester City.

However, we are now in the final days of the transfer window and Casemiro still remains at the club.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Casemiro is likely to continue at United for at least another season.

He was said to be on Al Ittihad’s radar but a change of leadership at the Saudi Pro League club impacted the pursuit.

Now, The Sun are claiming Ten Hag has “shelved plans to get rid” of the veteran midfielder, having been impressed with his performances during pre-season and in United’s opening two competitive games.

The Brazilian was absolutely brilliant out of possession against Fulham, helping United win the ball back multiple times. Whether he will be able to maintain the same energy throughout the campaign remains up for debate.

Ten Hag might be happy with Casemiro’s stay, but United are still looking for a new defensive midfielder.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte is the club’s preferred target to challenge Casemiro. The Mancunian giants continue to negotiate with the Ligue 1 outfit and there is “cautious optimism” that a consensus will be reached.
