In a recent report, The Independent claimed that Manchester United are keeping a keen eye on Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand. It is understood that the Red Devils are monitoring his progress at the Portuguese club.

Hjulmand’s Impressive Run Of Form In Portugal

The 26-year-old had a solid season at Sporting recently as he was responsible for putting in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. Hjulmand made 47 appearances for the Portuguese outfit in the previous campaign, scoring three goals and securing a couple of assists in various competitions.

The Danish talent was a reliable presence at the heart of Sporting’s midfield after he made 54 tackles, 20 blocks and 27 interceptions per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He was even careful when distributing the ball from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 91.4% in the Portuguese top flight (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Sporting will expire in the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for the Red Devils to sign him on the cheap in this transfer period.

Should Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Get Hjulmand On Board?

Hjulmand is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his side in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.

The Danish sensation can even chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team going forward. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if Man United can manage to snap him up this summer.

Hjulmand would add more quality and depth to Ruben Amorim’s midfield department. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club this season.

At 26, Hjulmand is about to enter his prime, which makes him a good choice for the Red Devils to pursue in this transfer window. Furthermore, he will also help Man United compete across all fronts in the coming years. Hence, Amorim should focus on getting him on board soon.
