Manchester City are keeping tabs on Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton ahead of the summer transfer window, as per a new report.
The Premier League champions are fighting for a top-four finish to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with major changes to be made in the squad in the summer.
Each of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Bernardo Silva could leave in the next six months after a disappointing season riddled with a lack of form and injuries across the squad.
Guardiola has more or less confirmed that Ilkay Gundogan will stay at the club into the 2025-26 season when he triggers an automatic extension clause in his current Manchester City deal.
De Bruyne has interest from the MLS and Saudi Arabia but the Belgian, who turns 34 in June, could accept a significant salary cut and sign a new deal to boost his chances of playing for his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Silva has been no stranger to transfer speculation since 2020 and his future is understood to be have been dealt with on a year-by-year basis, owing to the Portuguese’s long-standing desire to move closer to his homeland amid interest from Spain.
According to a new report by TBR Football, Manchester City have sent scouts to watch Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton having expressed their interest in the English midfielder.
Wharton has been previously reported to have suitors at the Etihad Stadium and with Ballon d’Or winner Rodri stepping up recovery from a long-term ACL injury sustained in September, City could look to bolster their options in central midfield in the summer.
Nico Gonzalez has already provided a breath of fresh air into an often uninspiring, ageing squad that needs cleansing but the four-in-a-row Premier League champions could test Palace’s resolve, particularly as incoming sporting director Hugo Viana is expected to heavily back Guardiola in the summer transfer window.
