Work is now underway at the City Football Academy training centre to add a purpose-built facility to permanently house and cater for Manchester City’s women’s team.

It is the latest project to be undertaken by Manchester City as they continuously look to keep their operation at the very forefront of global football operations, with a £300 million stadium redevelopment also ongoing.

That work is expected to take the club’s Etihad Stadium towards a 60,000 capacity while the project will also feature the addition of a brand new 401-bed hotel operated by Radisson Hotels Group as well as a state-of-the-art food and drinks hall, concourse, and museum.

But while fan offerings are at the heart of the ongoing work over at the Etihad Stadium, across the road there is now also construction taking place to improve the facilities handed to the club’s women’s team.

As confirmed by the club on Tuesday, Manchester City have now started building work on the new purpose-built facility for their women’s team which will include a hydrotherapy area and a high-performance gym among other top-level offerings for the squad.

Manchester City have stated that it has been designed to “expand over time as the team continues to grow” and that the facility will “mirror the high-performance environment of the men’s first team”.

Managing director of Manchester City Women, Charlotte O’Neill said, “After years of planning, consulting and designing, it is hugely exciting to start construction on our purpose-built training facility.

“The time feels right for the team to move into our own purpose-built home, and we think we’ve designed something really special that will help us in our efforts to consistently challenge for major titles.”

Manchester City Women’s club captain, Alex Greenwood also offered her view, “I think it’s going to be perfect. Right from the start we’ve been involved so we could discuss what’s going to be in there and what’s necessary.

“From what I know, the facilities are going to be the best, which is nothing short of what I expect.”

The latest development from within the Manchester City Women camp comes just 24 hours after the club made the largely surprising decision to relieve head coach Gareth Taylor of his duties leading up to this weekend’s League Cup final against Chelsea.
