New images have now been released by Manchester City showcasing their plans to both upgrade and expand the Etihad Stadium in the coming years.

The Club announced last week that a planning application had been submitted to Manchester City Council for the “development of a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination” at the Etihad Stadium.

The submission of the formal application followed a consultation held earlier this year, where both Manchester City fans and the local community were invited to share feedback on concepts and designs.

Among the proposals submitted, Manchester City have indicated a desire to construct ‘several connected all-weather facilities’, fully integrated into the Etihad Stadium itself, and centred around an expanded North Stand to take the capacity of the arena to over 60,000.

It has also been revealed that above the new upper tier within the expanded North Stand, a sky bar with views overlooking the Etihad Stadium pitch is also set to be introduced, along with a ‘stadium roof walk’ experience.

As part of that planning application, Manchester City have now also revealed fresh images that showcase the extent of their plans, and give supporters an idea as to how their home stadium could look upon completion in the coming years.

In an additional update to plans to expand the Etihad Stadium, Building.co.uk report that Laing O’Rourke have been being lined up as the main contractor on the £300 million development plans – the original builder of the stadium.

In a statement when plans were submitted, Manchester City’s managing director of operations Danny Wilson said, “Over several months we have been developing concepts and designs for a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium.

“As with all club developments, ensuring our local community benefit is a key priority and we believe these proposals will deliver long-term economic and social opportunities, building on the regeneration work delivered in east Manchester by City Football Group since 2008.”
