‘We just didn’t turn up in our usual way today.

A terrible first goal to give away sent us into a slide that we never recovered from, unlike other times this season when we have gone behind and turned it around.

Let’s put this behind us and move on to the Forest game back at home and hopefully back to winning ways.’

‘Bad day. Really unacceptable opening half hour revealing the team selection was wrong and some awful performances that could and should influence team selections next week.

I have to say I think some of us got a bit carried away with Man City having a lesser season by their high standards.

This was always one of, if not the, most difficult games of the season and it’s not a disaster to lose.

The disaster is if the manner of the defeat continues into a bad run that bleeds into the cup final and sees a highly promising season destroyed.

If lessons are learned and a reaction seen against Forest, this loss in itself is far from a disaster.

Just need to move past it and hope the next week is used to move positively forward.’

‘Oh dear.

The only positive I’ll take is that the bad feeling I had about the distinct possibility of a 16th straight defeat at the Emptyhad in the league, came about inside the fist half hour.

Better than being goalless and losing in the 90th minute?’

‘Abysmal.

Soundly and comfortably beaten on a ground where we have a truly appalling record.

Nobody really played well and we have given the home side a perfect tonic from their recent travails.

I can’t think of anything we did well and that despite heading into this game being talked up. Isak was a big focus on BBC Five Live at lunchtime.

It’s a typical Newcastle Utd kind of a day, but as ever, we all know this team can play a lot better than this.

I’m never one for excuses but we haven’t had the luxury of spending £180m in January like Man City did.’

‘This scoreline would have been expected in seasons gone by but with Man City in disarray and us having played so well over two legs against Arsenal, I did fancy our chances.

After a transfer window where we couldn’t strengthen, it was one of Man City’s recent recruits who got the hat-trick.

The perfect example of how PSR is designed to keep the rich outperforming the rest. Even with a million charges hanging over them.

It’s a tough run we’ve got coming up and we’re going to need to be a lot better than today to keep in touch of the European places.’
