“Lyon are interested in the Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton, 22, and have made contact with the Anfield club,” according to The Times.
The Liverpool ace impressed with the England Under-21 side as they sealed successive European Championship titles.
However, Morton will struggle to take the starting berth from Ryan Gravenberch at the base of Liverpool’s midfield.
Gravenberch clinched the Premier League Young Player of the Season award, helping Liverpool to win the league title.
Morton will have to play out of his skin to usurp the Dutchman.
Morton has been knocking on the doors of the Liverpool first-team for some time now.
He earned praise from former boss Jurgen Klopp, who hailed him as a player with an ‘outstanding football brain’.
But with a place in the Liverpool first-team looking unlikely, clubs have been circling for his signature, with Lyon being the latest.
The seven-time Ligue 1 champions just parted ways with Jordan Veretout, and Nemanja Matic is in the twilight of his career, leaving the door open for Morton to get game time.
However, they are not alone, with West Ham United also tracking the Liverpool defensive midfielder alongside Harvey Elliott.
It remains unclear where Morton will end up this summer.
The interest in Morton should prompt Liverpool to go into the market for a defensive midfielder after ignoring the position for a long time.
The Reds tried to sign Martin Zubimendi to plug the midfield gap, but they could not get a deal over the line, and he went to Arsenal.
Gravenberch did a remarkable job at the base of midfield last term, but Liverpool must sign a specialist to take the mantle and allow the Ajax star to play further up the pitch.
Unsurprisingly, it has been all quiet on that defensive midfield front with the club more focused on bringing attacking reinforcement.
