Liverpool have agreed a £130million deal with Newcastle for Alexander Isak in a deal which will smash the British transfer record.

First reported by the Telegraph, the Premier League champions reached an agreement with Newcastle late on Sunday evening.

The fee will eclipse the £116m Liverpool paid for Florian Wirtz earlier in the summer, which was the current British transfer record.

The Time report that Liverpool have already agreed a six-year contract with Isak, who will now undergo a medical and finalise a stunning deal.

Isak will be Liverpool’s seventh first-team signing of the window, and will take their summer spending far beyond £400m, with an expected £35m deal for Marc Guehi to come.

The Telegraph reported earlier in the evening that Newcastle’s majority stakeholders, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, had decided they will sell Isak if the Premier League champions pay their asking price.

In what was viewed as a public message to Liverpool to show their hand, Newcastle decided they were ready to listen to offers in the region on £130m.

Liverpool saw a first bid worth £110m rejected more than four weeks ago and had not returned since with an increased offer.

Until a breakthrough in talks as the clock passed midnight in the UK and into Deadline Day.

Frustratingly for Newcastle fans is the expectation that the club will not sign a replacement for Isak.

Newcastle completed the £69m club record signing of Nick Woltemade last week and have been pursuing both Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen, but both Brentford and Wolves have refused to sell.
