Liverpool’s contract talks with Virgil van Dijk have reportedly stalled. Now an interested club is ready to get him ‘at any cost’.

CaughtOffside reports that talks between Liverpool and Virgil van Dijk have 'stalled'. The Reds' captain is about to enter the final year of his contract, making those talks some of the biggest this summer.

There hasn't been much, if any, movement of late, however. That has at least one potential suitor lining up an offer: Al-Nassr.

The Saudi side have been linked with Van Dijk for a few months now, seeing him as their next star signing. The report claims they'd sign him 'at any cost' - a claim that probably isn't all that hyperbolic.

But whether the Reds would actually entertain a sale isn't clear. They'd need to weigh up the offer against another year of Van Dijk, which is worth a fortune on its own.

A long way to go, then, if the captain is to leave this summer.

Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool

In truth, the reason the talks have stalled is likely because Van Dijk is at Euro 2024 and wants to sort his future out post-tournament. For that reason, there's no need to panic.

Liverpool have three superstars in the same situation this summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah in the same situation as Van Dijk. All three will have major offers from elsewhere, too.

Recent reports claim there's a deadline in place for Salah's talks: August 1st. We imagine it's a similar story with Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, too.

And so you can expect another month of rumours and speculation around Liverpool's best players. All signs point to Van Dijk wanting to remain at Anfield, which is promising, but the money from Saudi Arabia will certainly tempt him - as it does most stars.

Liverpool have a little while longer to convince him to stay. Let's hope they make the most of it.
