Liverpool are making big alterations to their defence this summer. Milos Kerkez’s arrival from Bournemouth looks imminent - with the 21-year-old set to replace Andy Robertson as the Reds’ long-term left-back.
For his part, it is becoming increasingly possible that Robbo heads to Atletico Madrid. Fellow left-back Kostas Tsimikas, meanwhile, has been extensively linked with a move away - to either Nottingham Forest or Olympiacos.
At centre-back, too, there could be sweeping changes. Ibrahima Konate is out of contract in 2026 - and could be sold if no agreement is reached over a renewal.
Transfer talk is growing around Jarell Quansah as well, with the 22-year-old tipped to join Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth over £40m - or else move to one of his many Premier League suitors.
This rearrangement would leave the Reds quite light on numbers at left-back and centre-back.
And one solution the club are looking into is adding Ajax's left-back / centre-back Jorrel Hato to the ranks.
That’s according to the latest report from Duncan Castles on The Transfers Podcast - in which the journalist claims discussions are underway for the Dutch international to move to Anfield this summer.
“There have been direct conversations between Liverpool and Hato over joining the Premier League champions this summer,” Castles says.
“And those conversations have taken place with the knowledge of Ajax, who are open to selling the player.
“They want to reinforce at centre-back. But probably they cannot say to Hato: 'You come in and you’re the starting centre-back' — but he’ll get some time in that position. They can also give him time at left-back, where there’s quite a fluid situation for them.
“Liverpool can push to bring Hato in and have him as a deputy centre-back and deputy left-back, to share that position with Milos Kerkez for the coming season. But it will not be a cheap deal if they’re going to make that happen.”
