Liverpool’s summer overhaul is gathering momentum, with long-expected changes beginning to take shape at Anfield. As per reporting from Calcio Blog, the Reds are now ready to offload Federico Chiesa, with Serie A giants Inter Milan emerging as the most likely destination for the Italian winger. The move would mark a swift end to Chiesa’s short-lived and largely unproductive Premier League spell.
Chiesa arrived from Juventus for £12.5 million back in September, but the former Euro 2020 star failed to make his mark under new manager Arne Slot. The winger played just six times in the Premier League, totalling a meagre 104 minutes. Despite flashes of quality, Slot’s tactical system and the sheer competition for attacking roles left Chiesa on the periphery.
According to Calcio Blog, “The English experience has not borne the hoped-for results and now the 1997-born player is reflecting on the future, with an increasingly clear desire: to return to Italy.”

The report goes on to state that Inter Milan are in pole position to secure the services of the 27-year-old. Having finished second in Serie A, Inter are seeking reinforcements to mount another serious challenge both domestically and in Europe. Chiesa, hungry for redemption and returning to his home country, fits the bill.
“If two years ago Chiesa’s price tag exceeded €70 million, today – thanks to the contract expiring in 2026, the inconsistent performances and the few minutes accumulated – his value has drastically reduced, arriving at an estimate of around €18-20 million,” Calcio Blog adds.
For Liverpool, this represents a pragmatic decision. While Chiesa’s talent has never been in doubt, the failure to adapt, coupled with fierce competition for places following the arrival of Florian Wirtz and the possible addition of Jeremie Frimpong, has made his position untenable.
Slot’s blueprint for Liverpool is becoming clearer with each passing week. The pursuit of Wirtz signals a move toward more fluid, technically adept attackers, while Frimpong adds blistering pace and tactical flexibility.
As the Calcio Blog report underlines, “Something has got to give – and we are set to see the excess in the squad trimmed off.” That could also mean exits for Ben Doak, Luis Diaz or even Darwin Nunez, depending on how the market develops.

Chiesa’s departure would be one of the first big pieces in what could be a transformative summer at Anfield. It’s not just about adding talent, but ensuring the squad is balanced, competitive and fits the manager’s preferred style.
A Deal That Suits All Parties
From a business standpoint, Liverpool could turn a small profit on Chiesa despite his lack of impact. More importantly, it opens up room on the wage bill and creates clarity in the squad hierarchy.
As Calcio Blog states, “A return to Serie A that would not only be a transfer operation, but a real necessity to relaunch.” The player’s motivation to restart his career in Italy is evident, and Inter’s structured project might offer the stability he needs.
While “nothing has been decided yet,” the signs are clear: Chiesa’s Anfield chapter is coming to an end, and Inter Milan could be the next destination in a career that has veered off course but remains full of potential.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, Chiesa’s exit makes sense. There was genuine excitement when he arrived, especially given his exploits for Italy at Euro 2020, but his time at Anfield was unfortunately a misfire. Injuries, homesickness, and competition were all factors, but it’s clear he never looked settled.
Slot’s system demands energy, adaptability and a high tactical IQ. With Wirtz and Frimpong incoming, and others like Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo also vying for minutes, Chiesa’s chances of regular football looked increasingly slim. His exit now looks like one of mutual benefit.
What’s more intriguing is how aggressive Liverpool appear in their early transfer dealings. Wirtz for £126 million would be a marquee signing that signals intent. If Chiesa’s departure is part of a larger chain of moves, including another attacker like Raphinha or a midfield upgrade, then fans can be encouraged that Slot is building something dynamic.
Chiesa will no doubt be a threat again in Serie A, but for Liverpool, it’s about moving forward with players fully aligned with the manager’s vision.
