Brentford’s captain Nathan Collins is becoming one of the Premier League’s most talked-about defenders, with CaughtOffside reporting that both Liverpool and Tottenham are keen on securing his services. The 24-year-old Irish international has been pivotal for the Bees, showing leadership and consistency at the heart of their defence.
As noted, “Collins’ importance to Brentford cannot be overstated. Handed the captain’s armband, he has grown into a crucial figure both on and off the pitch, setting standards for his teammates while consistently delivering reliable performances in the Premier League.”
Spurs are currently regarded as the most serious contenders for Collins’ signature. According to the report, “Tottenham are widely regarded as the most serious contenders in the race for Collins, sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside.”

The presence of Thomas Frank, who previously worked with the defender, could play a decisive role in Tottenham’s pursuit. Collins’ leadership and tactical awareness fit neatly into their search for a defensive organiser.
Liverpool have also been linked but appear to be taking a more measured stance. CaughtOffside highlighted that “Liverpool have also shown interest, though their approach has been more measured. Collins is on their shortlist of defensive targets, but the Anfield hierarchy have yet to move forward with a formal bid.”
Given his contract with Brentford runs until 2029, prising Collins away will not be easy. Reports suggest that “any offer in the region of €50 million could trigger serious consideration,” though Brentford’s reluctance to sell mid-season makes this a tough negotiation.
Manchester United are also expected to monitor the situation as they look at long-term defensive options. With Collins under such a lengthy deal, Brentford remain in a strong position, but January could yet bring serious suitors to the table.
From a Liverpool perspective, the link to Nathan Collins is both intriguing and complicated. At 24, he has already demonstrated qualities that match what Arne Slot values in a defender: composure, leadership, and the ability to handle high-pressure Premier League environments. Fans will undoubtedly note that Collins has flourished in a Brentford side that thrives on structure and discipline—attributes that would translate well into Liverpool’s system. However Liverpool’s high line would be a new challenge for the Irish defender.
The challenge lies in timing. With Brentford reluctant to part ways mid-season, Liverpool would either need to pay a significant premium or wait until next summer. Given the club’s need for defensive depth following recent injuries and squad transitions, some supporters may feel urgency is necessary. A player under contract until 2029, however, represents a substantial financial commitment.
Many Liverpool fans might argue that Collins ticks boxes that past signings such as Virgil van Dijk once did—Premier League proven, a natural leader, and capable of commanding a backline. At €50 million, the fee seems steep, but given his age and leadership role, it could be justified as an investment for the next five to six years.
