Newcastle United returned to winning ways with an entertaining 4-3 win against third-place Nottingham Forest.
Having fallen behind inside six minutes, United hit back with style in the first half. Goals for Lewis Miley and Jacob Murphy turned the scoreline around, before an Alexander Isak brace gave the Magpies a comfortable lead.
Forest struck twice in the final half-an-hour to make it a nervy ending but United held on for all three points, and closed the gap on their top-four rivals to just three points.
And it was Lewis Hall whose performance thrilled fans, as he dominated the supporters’ Player of the Match vote across newcastleunited.com and the Official Newcastle United App.
The English left-back took 81% of the vote for his performance, in which he created three chances for his team-mates. No player in the match - for either side - created more, while he also recorded an assist for Lewis Miley’s goal.
That combination of Miley (aged 18) and Hall (aged 20) was the first time Newcastle United had a Premier League goal both scored and assisted by players aged 20 or younger since January 2007 against Manchester United, when David Edgar (19) was assisted by James Milner (20).
Alexander Isak’s brace saw him score his 49th and 50th Premier League goals, taking him past Freddie Ljungberg as the highest-scoring Swede in Premier League history. Isak earned 13% of the vote.
Completing the poll were Dan Burn (4%), who won 10 of his 12 duels including six from eight in the air, and Jacob Murphy (1%), who scored the Magpies’ second goal.
Lewis Hall was named Premier League Player of the Match by Sky Sports co-commentator Andy Hinchcliffe.
